Understanding Wavelengths and the DWDM System

The Two Types of Wavelengths

Modern telecom companies use either DWDM or CWDM systems. In the two systems, lasers are chosen and used with precise wavelengths, eliminating the possibilities of interfering with one another. Both CWDM and DWDM services are offered in wavelengths services. A Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing or DWDM wavelengths are popular because of the simple technical requirements.

Advantages of DWDM

One of the main advantages of a DWDM system is its usable features. If you have a client with an old, existing link, there's no need to remove and replace the current equipment. Another advantage of using a DWDM system is the use of lesser fiber cores. You don't need more fiber cores to transmit and receive high capacity data on the internet when you use the system. For an easier network expansion, a DWDM system proves to be the best option for most organizations. Instead of using a 12 fiber core, you can use a single core fiber capable and divide it into multiple channels.

Disadvantages of DWDM

Just like with anything, the system also has its downsides. A DWDM system is an expensive choice for low channels. The complicated receivers and transmitters make it more expensive. A CWDM system will help you save more money if you have plans on using low channels.

Despite its disadvantages, a DWDM system proves to be a good option because of the continuous development in technology.
